Farewell, My Friend and Compatriot, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON!

Farewell, My Friend and Compatriot!

Today, 23rd of February 2024, my friend, brother, professional colleague, and governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, will be lowered to the grave. It is hard to bid you goodbye especially when I remember how close and blossom our friendship became way before your illness. I am just a dial away anytime you want to confide in me on matters of politics and governance. You gave me every reason to see the greatness in your heart, the compassion for the good of all and the truth in every action of yours.

As the governor of Ondo state, you stood for us and against a common threat to our peace. You spoke when it was considered politically risky to do so. You gave us Amotekun Security Network and led from the front. You gave your people a voice and hope to live again.

In the leadership of our dear state, you were unique. You manifested courage and fortitude at every crucial decision time in the inclement and rough terrain of politics and governance. You took tough decisions and ensured the decisions were fortified to endure.

No doubt, we have all lost a leader, with imprints in the sand of time; in the delightful law profession, politics, governance, and nation-building.

In all, you exhibited truth in totality, courage without despair, and left in our memory a legacy of service for the benefit of Ondo State, Nigeria, and humanity. You were a voice for all.

On a personal note, we will miss your uncommon humour, frankness, and great but challenging moments that unveiled your sterling character and minor shortcomings as a mortal.

Rest in peace, my governor, friend, and dear brother in the temple of justice. May God continue to be with your soul until we meet again.

Chief and Chief Mrs Olusola Oke, SAN
